Project Description
Klamath Falls will utilize Community Initiated Projects (CIP) funding to restore Taxiway F at Crater Lake–Klamath Regional Airport (LMT), a vital connector for military aircraft, US Forest Service tankers, and private planes. Adjacent to the Air National Guard’s Kingsley Field, Taxiway F facilitates access between the primary Runway 14-32 and Crosswind Runway 8-26, optimizing runway availability and reducing congestion.
Due to years of wear, Taxiway F is currently closed, causing operational delays, increased fuel consumption, and diminished military readiness. Temporary repairs are no longer sufficient, and while the Airport Master Plan calls for a full reconstruction to meet modern safety and operational standards, FAA funding remains constrained.
CIP funding will support critical upgrades, including pavement rehabilitation, energy-efficient lighting, updated signage, and improved drainage. These enhancements will not only restore full functionality but also ensure safe and efficient movement for both civilian and military operations. Additionally, the improvements will better accommodate first responder traffic, including emergency firefighting and medical response vehicles, strengthening regional emergency preparedness.
